STILL HERE AND NO RAIN
... actually, it was a dry and quiet night with a wonderful sunrise this morning, so whoever said we were in for floods got it wrong. (I hope I don't end up regretting saying that).
I have been in my new role for two weeks now and have already progressed from editor to executive manager and now to executive foreign manager. I don't think the word 'foreign' adds anything for me but it does show a bit of prestiege for the company in that they have a foreign person working for them. I am already being lined up to meet some of the influential English businessmen in Bangkok who already advertise with the company.
There is a good chance I will be flying to New York in the not too distant future to meet with an American publishing company and discuss the prospect of licensing one of their magazines for the Thai market. I'll keep you up-to-date on that but it's looking promising.
I'm also helping some of the staff here with their English. A small group of them arrive 30 minutes early for work and I help them to understand spoken English. Today was the first 'lesson' and we got onto the subject of past, present and future tenses. It's hard to explain something when you are not a teacher, but I think they understand. We're going to meet every day for about 10 minutes - another strong to my bow.
