REASSURANCE
I am sure this is likely to make news around the world ...
'Thai police have deactivated explosives hidden in a car near the residence of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Police said bomb-making ingredients were found in the boot of a car belonging to an army officer, who has since been detained.
Police chased the car after it was seen driving up and down near Mr Thaksin's home, reports said. The incident came on the day that campaigning for the general election re-run kicked off. Tensions have been high amid ongoing political uncertainty following an annulled poll in April.'
Working on the 25th floor as I do, I've only just seen the reports of this some three hours after the story initially broke. I think the story above, copied from the BBC website, is pretty self-explanatory. Thaksin is not especially popular in Bangkok but retains a lot of support in other parts of the kingdom. What with this, and the unrest in the deep south of the country, Thailand is getting to be an interesting place to be. Incidentally, Thaksin's home is only about six miles or so from mine!
