ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR
Last weekend saw the annual Ploenchit British Fair - a charity event that has been held pretty much every year since the 1950s. It brings together the British expat community as well as allowing Thai people to get a glimpse of a traditional British fair.
Essentially it was a glorified trade show, but with the normal raffles, bingo, bouncy castle, coconut shy, etc, along with a beer tent and fish and chips. We took part in the bingo and were waiting for one number to win a 29in Panasonic television. I have no idea how we would have got it home!
Another good feature was a Boots stand where they were selling off some of their products at discounted prices. I picked up some conditioner and a few other bits and pieces for about one third of the normal price.
There were also a few stands selling British food and drink products. When I was back in the UK I drunk a lot of Ribena, but that's been impossible to find here so far. What I did find on Saturday was the equally good Robinsons Apple and Blackcurrant drink.
It was interesting for me to see the number of publications represented at the fair in one form or another - and highlights the competetion that exists to attract valuable expat readers.
