AIRPORT PROBLEMS

It's only been open since the end of September, but already Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport is experiencing major problems.
Last week it failed to get an International Safety Certificate, and at the weekend one of the runways and some of the taxiways were closed to repair some major cracks.
The problem appears to be corruption. Those responsible for the building took the money but used sub-standard materials, not just externally but also within the terminal building.
Yesterday the Government said it was allowing the re-opening of the former airport at Don Muang to cater for the low-cost carriers. The new airport was supposed to be the new sparkling hub for the whole of the region. Right now it's a long way from being that.
