DESPERATE MEASURES ?
The Thai Prime Minister has turned to the ancient Chinese principals of feng shui in a bid to improve his Government's waning fortunes. He's reportedly ordered auspiciously named plants to be placed in Government House and had a water fountain installed outside his office. He's also removed all pictures of former PMs, but perhaps most interesting is that he's had cats-eyes installed in the driveway leading to the building.
The story in today's Bangkok Post is good although perhaps somewhat tongue-in-cheek because it ends by saying that former PM Thaksin Shinawatra was also believed to be a big follower of feng shui. Just looks what happened to him.

Hi Andrew,
Long time no speak!
I've just come back from 16 days in Thailand and found that everywhere I turned there was a "lady-boy" as you put it. For some reason they love pale skinned people and as I resemble a milk-bottle they were fascinated by me!!!
Coincidentally the woman who checked me in to one of my hotels (we stayed in many as we travelled the majority of the country) was called Tanyarat... not your Tanya by any chance???
Anyway hope all is well and you're surviving the boiling Bangkok heat!
Take care
Alana
Alana, good to hear from you and I'm glad you're keeping in touch.
You're right about quite a few things 1 - lady boys are everywhere, and are sometimes hard to spot, 2 - Thai people are fascinated by white or pale skin, to such an extent that many of the beauty products here are designed to whiten their skin, and 3 - Bangkok is boiling most of the time.
My Tanyarat does work at a hotel but on the corporate administration side so does not get inolved in reception. Where did you stay while you were here?
We should have met up - I could have taken you some of the less touristy places inthe capital.
Anyway, thanks for leaving a message and keep in touch.
Andrew.
Someone using the name 'SVL' left a comment suggesting my name is Andrew Walker, someone who he/she suggests has been writing disparaging comments about the Thai monarchy whilst singing the praises of the former PM Thaskin Shinwatra.
I am more than happy to state that I am NOT that person, and have not and will never publish anything defematory or libelous about anyone. I am proud to be here in Thailand and proud to live by the laws of this wonderful country.
I'm more than happy to have people comment on this blog, but I'd prefer email addresses to be included (not for publication) so I can at least have the chance to defend myself.
You'll know, if you have posted comments yourself, that I have enabled comment moderation. This is purely to prevent spam messages and not meant as censorship in any way. If 'SVL' wants to email me my address is on the top of the blog and I will be more than happy to discuss this further.
