DID YOU KNOW?

My post yesterday about Siam leads nicely on to a topic I have wanted to write for a while.
When people think of Thailand (or Siam) they might think of the film and musical 'The King and I' or 'Anna and the King'. Yul Brynner won an Oscar (one of five) and Deborah Kerr was nominated in the 1956 film production, which was actually filmed entirely outside Thailand- mainly in Malaysia.
What might come as a surprise to most of you is that the possession of anything relating to these films is illegal within Thailand. The reason is because the film is considered to be historically inaccurate and defamatory to King Mongkut - the subject of the film. Just remember how much people in Thailand respect and revere their Royal family. If you're curious and want to know more you might want to check out http://www.thaistudents.com/kingandi/index.html for both sides of the argument.
