THAI PRIDE

One of our longest serving members of staff is quitting because he's not been offered a job on the new magazine.
Way back in November, before we'd even made the deal public, I trusted our staff with the exciting news and told them that none of them would be forced to work for the new title. My reasoning for that is because it's very different in so many ways from what they have been doing up to now. All the vacancies were emailed to all staff and posted on our noticeboard for weeks. Yet this person thinks he should have been offered a place without having to apply.
This is a perfect example of how much pride Thai people have in themselves, and how they hate to lose face. Only two people from our current staff of 50 applied for positions and both are now working on the new magazine. I am not going down the road of having one rule for some and one for others and my boss is in total agreement. I'll be sad to see him go but if he cannot understand the way things need to be then he's not someone we need.
