TESTING SKYPE

I installed Skype yesterday, but I am yet to be convinced that the networks here in Thailand will be capable of supporting it to the levels achieved in other parts of the world.
The wi-fi network in my condo is dodgy at best, and at work everything seems to grind to a halt after about 10am. That's not necessarily down to my colleagues; I think it's more the fact that everyone in Bangkok starts working around that time.
That said I hope it might be useful for calling my media contacts and colleagues around the world. Many have Skype, and if it works then I can really see it being a very useful tool for me.

Hi Andrew,

Before you pay for a plan to call anyone on their land-lines you could try dialing a 1-800 number in the states - and it's free if you have SKYPE installed. I tried it with the airlines reservations number and it worked great, even though the wifi network I was using wasn't the best. I installed an external microphone and the sound on both ends was pretty clear. I understood a mexican guy speaking English about detailed topics (airline reservations) so yeah, Skype can work well from Thailand. Now, not that sure about your pc-to-pc connections. But, once I listened in on a public call and heard a guy from Australia giving a training class to a bunch of people from India, England and all over the world that was audible.

Good luck. Oh, there is also "Fring" which works with mobile phones for VOIP. Free. Vern

Skype works well with my ADSL connection at home. I can talk with my friends in Poland, Egypt and Ireland clearly. Shouldn't be problem for you..

I think it will work fine from the office, but the problem is that everyone is New York (the main reason I installed it) will be at home when we're working.
And the connection from my condo is pretty poor. Perhaps I might have to invest in my own connection at home and not rely on the condo's wi-fi?
