IS BRITAIN GOING CRAZY?

Am I alone in finding the media coverage about the naming of the Blue Peter cat totally mad? We're talking about the naming of a cat - so for this to make third or fourth lead story on Sky News last night (which I get here at 5.30am the following morning) seems obsurd.
Check out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7005053.stm for background if you're unfamiliar with this story.
I know there is the issue of the BBC's obligation to high standards and transparency, but does this story really deserve such a high profile? And what is wrong with the original name 'cookie' that was chosen by viewers, why was it deemed offensive?
It seems it wasn't that bad a choice to begin with as, according to BBC News Online, a new kitten will be introduced next week and its name will be .... cookie.

I didn't realise they still showed Blue Peter. I used to hate that show.
