THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN THE WORLD

When reading the English language media in Thailand you would be forgiven for thinking that Bangkok has some of the best restaurants in the world. I've yet to see a bad review in the 16 months I've been here, but I can assure you there is a very good reason for that.
Most, if not all, of the reviews that appear will have been paid for so are essentially thinly disguised advertorials. Most magazines will sell as much as they can, including restaurant reviews and even cover stories for the right price.
In the UK a bad review in TimeOut of from Fay Maschler in the London Evening Standard could literally break a business, but I fear it's going to be a long time before that same degree of honest and transparency arrives in the media here.
