LIVING IN A DREAM WORLD
Thaksin Shinawatra is in the news again. The former Thai Prime Minister has, according to the British media, said he wants to turn his Manchester City Football Club into the most famous football club in the world. And just a six weeks before Thailand goes to the polls City boss Sven Goran Eriksson was back in Bangkok today to sign three players from the Thai national squad.
Manchester City as the most famous club in the world? Is Thaksin on drugs? And I wasn't aware the transfer window in the Premier League was open at the moment? Players can only be signed from January 1st according to league rules. Although this is harsh I have seen the Thailand national team play and anyone who thinks any of these players are going to be good enough to get into the City first team anytime soon is living in a dream world. For sure they're good by Thai standards but not on the world stage.
I wonder if today's press conference, which apparently included a video presentation from Thaksin that included political swipes at the current regime, has anything to do with the forthcoming elections on December 23rd?
Thaksin is a genius and a master when it comes to PR and it doesn't take an expert to see what is happening here, even though he was banned from politics for five years by Thailand's Electoral Commission.
