TOURIST INTERNET RIP-OFF

People like to keep in touch and check their emails while on holiday or away on business, and some hotels in Bangkok are cashing in on this big time.
One hotel I know charges its guests 500 baht per hour for using the Internet. Just half a mile away there's a 'local' Internet cafe that charges its users 15 baht per hour for access.
I doubt 500 baht is the most expensive rate in Bangkok either, but if you're new to a city and don't know any better then you'll happily pay your 500 baht without question.

Or how about resorts that charge upwards of 4000 baht for a steak and lobster dinner, that can be had for less than 1000 baht at the Sizzle across the street?

Hotels, especially the upscale ones, prey upon the ignorance of the tourist. What gets me is that they often then turn around and complain to their stakeholders (read: Employees) about their inability to make a profit.
