THE WRONG FIRST IMPRESSION?
Thai Airways' Sawasdee in flight magazine is a decent enough read but you have to wonder about the kind of first impression of Thailand that it gives to its readers.
One page features a handy list of 50 translated handy phrases such as 'hello', 'thank you' and 'how much is this?' It also includes the phrases for 'that's too expensive'.
That made me smile, and no matter how hard I looked I simply couldn't find the translations for 'that's too cheap' or 'what excellent value for money'. So the kingdom's flag carrier is pretty much giving the impression, unintentionally of course, that everything in Thailand is overpriced for visitors. They might be right but I couldn't possibly comment.
