DAILY XPRESS - ONE MONTH ON

It's almost a month since Nationmultimedia launched Daily Xpress, Thailand's first free English language daily. I was very critical of the lack of news in the first few weeks, but I've noticed the balance has now shifted away from gossip-driven front pages to more serious news. I wonder if that's down to reader comments or advertising pressure?
I'd also be interested to hear from anyone outside Bangkok who has seen Daily Xpress. In the PR storm surrounding the launch Daily Xpress claimed it would be distributing outside the capital. I know from personal experience just how hard that can be with a monthly magazine, let alone a daily newspaper. Has anyone in Phuket or Chiang Mai seen it?
The concept for Daily Xpress was created by Garcia Media and there are several examples around the world. The front page (above) is from a Dubai version that was launched just over a year ago. It doesn't look too different from Thailand's version but you can bet Nationmultimedia paid a lot in consultancy fees prior to the launch. Indeed the same buzzwords that appeared at the Dubai launch also made their way into print here. Sure, they're paying for a tried-and-tested concept but I still maintain that a Thai edition would work better here.
