'BLOODBATH BANGKOK' UPDATES

The British Foreign Office is saying: "If you plan to visit Thailand in the next few days you should consider the present situation when making your decision." Given there's no State of Emergency here I don't think those who opt to cancel pre-arranged trips will be covered by their insurance.
The Nation is reporting that doctors at Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok are refusing to treat members of the Royal Thai Police who were injured in yesterday's clashes. This is, according to the newspaper, because of their unhappiness about the levels of excessive force used.
The Nation also reports that several MPs from the ruling People's Power Party were denied entry onto internal flights operated by national carrier Thai Airways. The captain was reportedly worried that the MPs presence of the flight might cause confrontations, whereas one politician denied passage suggested the mental state of the captain should be investigated.
The Associated Press and others say troops stand guard on street corners in Bangkok. I can't confirm whether this is happening throughout the city; all I can say is that from my window I can't see anything unusual. I would think it's unlikely because of the fear it would create amongst visitors.

Late commenting, but I did see troops standing guard at a street corner the week of the clash. Granted, it was pretty close to Gov't House, but there was nothing going on around them.

There were four or five of them standing holding riot shields on the corner of Sawankhalok and Ratchawithi, if I recall correctly. Sawankhalok parallels the west side of the railroad tracks, so I would've seen the soldiers a kilometer or so south of Samsen train station in Dusit district.

I noticed them on at least two days, but I didn't take note to look for them every day, and I don't recall which days specifically.

Granted, that's only about 2 km from Government House. But I pass by there every day, and apart from extra traffic and a partial road closure on Rama V Road on the day of the 7th, there's been nothing out of the ordinary along my regular commute. Sort of dispels the sensational reporting going on in the foreign press.
