EXOTIQ, A UNIQUE PUBLICATION IN MANY WAYS
Launched earlier this year Exotiq Thailand is a unusual publication in more ways than one.
Firstly it's published by a property company - the Kingdom's largest resort focused brokerage according to the website. It's also, using the publishers own words, a "property catalogue" with "no flowery editorial content."
Another feature about this magazine is its size. It's large - 35cm x 27cm - which is both good and bad. It certainly stands out in the bookshops but it's sheer size means it's not well suited to the relatively shallow displays. It's certainly the largest publication in Thailand by size, and at 200 baht it's also one of the most expensive however a PDF and digital edition is available for free from the associated website.
A further unique aspect of Exotiq Thailand is that it's run, again according to the publishers own words, as a "not for profit exercise" which means "lower advertising rates." It claims a print run of 30,000 copies per edition and the media kit advertising rates, at a little of 19,500 baht for a full page, are certainly significantly cheaper than other titles chasing the same audience.
I'm assuming the vast majority of copies are freely distributed and not paid-for. The title is available in some B2S stores in Bangkok but I'd be surprised if more than a few hundred copies of each edition are sold through retail.
The not-for-profit publishing model is interesting; I'm sure there are many publishers in Thailand right now that would be happy to just break even each month.
