MAGAZINE WORLD DESCENDS ON MOSCOW

The annual World Magazine Marketplace exhibition takes place in Moscow this week. My heart will be there although pressure of work means I'll be staying in Bangkok this week. I've been to the last two events - 2006 in London and last year in Singapore where I was invited to speak. It's the biggest event of the year where those involved in the world of international magazine licensing and publishing get together and do business.
Thailand has around 50 (at last count) licensed magazines. Those are magazines which originate overseas and whose publisher has signed an agreement with a Thai publisher to produce a Thai language edition of that title. There are very few sectors of the magazine industry in Thailand that don't boast at least one licensed title, but there are opportunities for publishers that want to take a tried and trusted brand from overseas and develop it here.
