THE WORLD ACCORDING TO ....

... our taxi driver on Monday evening who set about telling Tanya what is wrong with Thailand and the world for pretty much all of the 30 minute journey. I think taxi drivers around the world have an opinion about something, and this one had many.
I knew he was setting the world to rights when the words 'Thaksin' and 'Muslims' came up. Soon after came 'corruption' - and there was literally no stopping him.
Eventually his attention turned to me, and in his faltering English said 'Tony Blair corrupt', or something very similar. I pretty much agreed and said that anyone is power has the tendency to fall victim. George Bush didn't escape lightly either, and Margaret Thatcher even came in for some stick!
I thought I would ask him, through Tanya, what his thoughts were about Thailand for the remainder of the year. He smiled and said 'everything happy because we have the King'. That totally sums up Thailand. No matter what happens people will do anything for His Majesty, who incidentally will be celebrating his 80th birthday in December of this year.
